Devlin - let go
Genre characteristics
This music video shows a narrative about 2 people in a relationship and the different emotions they go through. Theres a mirror that it keeps switching to, and in the mirror it might be 2 people getting on fine and kissing each other but really from the persons point of view looking in the mirror they're arguing and throwing things at each other.
Lyrics + visuals
The visual to the music video is mainly 2 people arguing and throwing things at each other, the lyrics amplify how they feel about each other. The lyrics say "and hours on end, the bickering, fighting, I blame my surroundings, A relationship defined in violence, it blossomed, and it bloomed and now its rottern and i'm blue" the music video portrays exactly how he feels.
Music + visuals
When the beat picks up around hald way through the lights flash in time with the tempo. Also when the music is louder the images move faster the music amplifys the visuals of the music video by speeding up and slowing down the editing as the music goes faster and slower.
Close ups
There is a few close up shots of Devlins face when he is singing, this shows his talent is singing. Also this shows the emotion on his face which matches the lyrics and the style of music
Looking
There is a bit of voyeuristic treatment of the female who is also in the music video. When Devlin and then female are kissing there is a close up then, that feels also like the voyeuristic treatment. Also the music video is set around a mirror and looking at mirror images, this does reference to the notion of looking.
Intertextual
I can't see any thing at the moment.
Owl city - Fireflies
Genre characteristics
This is set in a bedroom, looks like a younger boys bedroom, i would say the genre is quite electro pop because of all the electrophonic sounds and it's quite a pop sounding song.
Lyrics + visuals
When things are said in the lyrics a visual of that will appear on the screen e.g. "a disco ball is just hanging by a thread" then the visual of a disco ball hanging up is shown on the music video, this is the lyrics illustrating the music video, becuase as things in the lyrics are said the music video will show an image.
Music + visuals
As the tempo speeds up the editing also speeds up, theres a stage where the tempo is quite fast and 18 different shots have been fitted into a space of 15 seconds
Close ups
Theres a lot of close ups of hands on a keyboard, showing the artists talents, there is also a lot of close up shots of toys and flashing lights. This is because the song is set in a childs room and is all about going to sleep and dreaming, so the close up shots of toys shows a childs room and dreams.
Looking
The whole music video is particularly voyeuristic it shows you all the toys coming to life and you feel that you shouldn't be seeing this because the man playing keyboards and the toys are all alive behind him.
Intertextual
Toy story is when all the toys come to life, i think it references that quite a lot
